You can apply colored stains or sealers with a simple garden sprayer. (fill it, pump it, and go to work.) Be cautious not to walk on the cedar after you have applied sealer, it becomes very slippery when wet. If you are working up on the roof, start at the bottom and work your way to the top.
if you are talking about roof shingles you DO NOT use any sealer on them at all .The way roof shingles work is when they get wet they expand and if they are sealed they will not expand.dont do it
